The Thing That Listens Behind the Door

🕯️ Introduction

In a quiet neighborhood in Lahore, there is a house no one wants to rent. The rent is cheap, the rooms are spacious… but every tenant leaves within weeks.

They all say the same thing:

“It’s not what’s inside the house that’s scary… it’s what’s outside the door at night.”

The Move-In

A young man named Hamza, fresh from Karachi, moved in after getting a new job. The landlord warned him not to open the bedroom door after midnight. Hamza laughed, thinking it was just a creepy story to scare him.

The first night was peaceful. The second night, he woke up at 2:13 AM to a sound — slow breathing on the other side of the bedroom door.

The Voice

By the third night, the breathing was louder, followed by a whisper:

“Hamza… open the door… I want to see your face.”

Hamza froze in bed. The voice was soft, female… almost sad. But there was something wrong about it — as if someone was copying a human voice, but didn’t know how emotions worked.

He stayed silent.

The whisper turned into a low growl:

“You can hear me… I can hear you breathing…”

The Mistake

On the fifth night, Hamza’s curiosity got the better of him. He decided to look. He opened the door just a crack — and saw an eye pressed against it. Not a normal eye.
It was pale, wet, and too big for a human face.

The moment he saw it, the door slammed open, and something long and thin rushed inside. The lights flickered, and Hamza screamed… but no one heard him.

Aftermath

The next day, the landlord found the apartment empty. The bed was made. The breakfast was half-eaten.
But on the inside of the bedroom door, written in something dark and sticky, were the words:

"Thank you for letting me in."

No one has seen Hamza since.
